"Big Hero 6" V.S. "Sunfire Big Hero 6"

Most of you have probably watched the most recent Disney film, Big Hero 6, by now. Released in 2014, Big Hero 6 is a comedy-superhero animated movie. It was one of my favorite Disney Movies up till now, and this is big, because I usually don't pick favorites, especially when it comes to Disney. The after-effect of the movie was so great that I spent several hours on the internet searching stuff about it after watching the movie. But there was one particular fact that caught my attention.

The story line of Big Hero 6 is based on a Marvel Comics going by the same title.
"Superfire Big Hero 6"
Big Hero 6 is not a Disney original story. Rather, it is almost completely based off of the Marvel Comic. The first issue of this comic was released in 1998, 16 years prior to the Disney animated film.

The plot of Sunfire Big Hero 6 is similar yet different from that of the Disney film. In the original story, the 6 heroes are not mere "nerds" that met in college. They are each a quite significant character in the society and are "assembled" together, hence many other Marvel comics like the Avengers.
When the Japanese government requires the help of superhumans, they start to recruit a team. Honey Lemon is a secret agent that developed an amazing nano technology.
Gogo Tomago can control the use of fire by saying her own name.
Wasabi-no-Ginger and Fred also join the team.

The government tries to get 13 year old boy genius Hiro Takachiho to join the heroes. Hiro refuses, until his mother is kidnapped by the Everwraith, one of the largest enemies in Japan. When agreeing to join the team, Hiro creates his bodyguard, Baymax, who is capable of turning into a dragon when needed. Baymax's data is created from the brain cells of his dead father.

The comics continue in several series of the heroes rescuing Japan from danger. In the end, Spiderman and the Big Hero 6 collaborate to defeat the evil Doctor Octopus.

<Big Hero 6> (2014)
The story of Disney's Big Hero 6 is based in San Fransokyo, which you can probably guess is a fusion of San Francisco and Tokyo. (The landscapes are truly amazing, such as this representation of the Golden Gate Bridge with a *touch* of Tokyo.)

The main character, Hiro Hamada, participates in illegal botfights to earn money. His "nerd" brother Tadashi tries to right his ways by convincing him to get into his "nerd school". Hiro presents "microbots" as his project to get into the school. Although accepted by the great robot scientist Robert Callaghan, Hiro looses both his loving brother and professor Callaghan on the night of his presentation.
*sobs uncontrollably*
The only thing that Hiro has to remember his brother by is Baymax, a personal health care robot. Baymax and Hiro discover his microbots have been stolen. With the help of their friends Honey Lemon, Gogo, Wasabi and Fred, they find the microbots and try to find the person behind the deaths of Tadashi and Callaghan, only to find out that the responsible one is....

Callaghan? *SPOILER*
...Yep

After Callaghan is exposed, Hiro and his friends seek to bring Callaghan down. They find out that Callaghan was doing it out of revenge for his lost daughter. In the end Hiro and Baymax save his daughter but Baymax is left behind. Fortunately, Hiro has Baymax's memory chip and is able to rebuild his best friend.

<Conclusion>

I personally enjoyed the Disney version more than the Marvel one. Although I have never seen the comics, the storyline or the drawing techniques don't seem as catchy as those in the animated film. In addition, I always love the cute features that Disney manages to sneak in into every movie, for instance in Big Hero 6, Baymax's "hairy- baby" or "Balalalala" fist bump.
"Balalala"
Big Hero 6 was a great movie and I think that it did a great job in adapting the original comic series. Any of you who didn't watch it, sorry for the spoilers, but really, do try it once. I guarantee you'll love it.
